Contaminated
Fresh Fuel Transport
[Posted 07/07/1999]
Contamination problems affect the transport of fresh fuel. Only one
year after WISE-Paris revealed the scandal of spent fuel transport contamination,
the French utility EDF admitted that it found significant contamination
on a truck which delivered fresh fuel from the FBFC plant in Dessel
(Belgium) to the French Tricastin nuclear power plant. The contamination
level indicated by EDF of 1,200 Bq/cm2 exceeds the limit of 4 Bq/cm2
by a factor of 300. The causes are under investigation. There were no
legal or any other disciplinary consequences of the 10 year lasting
spent fuel contamination scandal (see Plutonium Investigation n°4-5/98).
Why should the operators therefore fear any legal or other penalties
this time?
