Former Green Local Councillor Admits Attack on Nuclear Power Station

In 1982, Chaïm Nissim shot with a bazooka at the nuclear power station of Creys-Malville (F), then under construction. As it is statute-barred today, the former representative of the Green party in the Geneva cantonal government (until 2001) admitted the act to the media.
Aged 32 at the time, the environmental activist had fired two missiles at the nuclear power station missing his goal, the centre of the plant, only by a hair’s breath. Thus, there would have been a delay in construction works of two years, said Nissim in interviews with the western Swiss papers «Courrier» and «Le Temps.»
According to Nissim, it was a small group of opponents of the fast breeder Superphenix, who had the idea of the attack in 1977. Nissim was a member of this group.
The largest difficulty for the anti-nuclear activists consisted in the acquisition of the weapon, said Nissim. At first, the group approached Swiss radical left-wing groups. This led to contacts with German terrorists, Chaïm Nissim explained in a manuscript.
It had been a problem to convince the terrorists to give them the bazooka «without having to give them anything in return, which they could have used for a purpose we could not support, » the former local councillor said to the «Courrier.» The common aim to weaken the «military and industrial complex to which Malville also belonged» eventually convinced the terrorists to grant assistance «free of charge.»
Thanks to the Germans’ goodwill, Chaïm Nissim had been able to get hold of a Soviet bazooka and several missiles in Brussels in September 1981. A few months later, on 18th January 1982, from the ruins of an old castle, the radical activist had fired at the plant.

Chaïm Nissim hat 1982 mit einer Bazooka auf die sich im Bau befindende Zentrale des Atomkraftwerkes Creys-Malville (F) geschossen. Da die Tat heute verjährt ist, hat sich der ehemalige Grüne Genfer Grossrat (bis 2001) gegenüber den Medien dazu bekannt.
Der damals 32-jährige Umweltaktivist hatte zwei Raketen gegen das Atomkraftwerk abgeschossen. Sein Ziel, das Kernstück der Anlage zu treffen, verfehlte er nur knapp. Damit hätten sich die Bauarbeiten um zwei Jahre hinausgezögert, sagte Nissim in Interviews mit den Westschweizer Zeitungen «Courrier» und «Le Temps».
Die Idee des Anschlages entstand laut Nissim 1977 in einer kleinen Gruppe, die aus Gegnern des schnellen Brüters Superphénix bestand. Nissim gehörte dieser Gruppe an.
Die grosse Schwierigkeit für die AKW-Gegner sei das Beschaffen der Waffe gewesen. Die Gruppe habe sich zuerst an linksextreme Gruppen in der Schweiz gewandt. Daraus hätten sich Kontakte mit deutschen Terroristen ergeben, berichtete Chaïm Nissin in einem Manuskript.
Ein Problem hatte darin bestanden, von den Terroristen die Bazooka zu bekommen, «ohne ihnen im Tausch etwas zu geben, das sie für ein Anliegen hätten verwenden können, das wir nicht unterstützen konnten», sagte der ehemalige Grossrat im «Courrier». Das gemeinsame Ziel, «den Militär- und Industriekomplex zu schwächen, zu dem auch Malville gehörte», habe schliesslich die Terroristen dazu bewogen, ihre Hilfe «gratis» zu gewähren.
Dank dem Wohlwollen der Deutschen konnte Chaïm Nissin im September 1981 in Brüssel eine sowjetische Bazooka und mehrere Raketen beschaffen. Der Militante hatte einige Monate danach, am 18. Januar 1982, von einer Ruine eines alten Schlosses aus auf die Anlage geschossen.
