Öko-Institut
The Institute
of Applied Ecology is a technical consultancy organisation with over 70
experts which is partly funded through the membership of individual citizens
and city councils (about 4,000). It works on many different environmental
issues but has a team of outstanding experts on nuclear issues including
reactor safety and radioactive waste management. Over the years, the Institute
has developed significant expert activities for the Länder nuclear
licensing authorities. Öko-Institut experts also advise the Hessen
government on the final shutdown and dismantling of the Hanau MOX fuel
fabrication facilities.
There are three offices
in Darmstadt, Berlin and Freiburg. The Darmstadt office is the largest
and comprises the nuclear department.
